Top Yangon Activities for Kids
Give your children plenty to smile about during your Yangon staycation! Here are some Yangon local attractions that they will love.
Ride on the Yangon Circular Train
To keep your kids entertained, forget the local tour and instead, book a ride on the Yangon Circular Railway. Built by the British in 1954, the charmingly nostalgic Circular Railway connects Yangon’s rural areas to the city centre, and you can look forward to a leisurely ride (about three hours) that covers 39 stations over 45.9km.
While on the Circular Railway, look out for snippets of local life, such as local market vendors selling their wares at train stops. If you have time for quick stops, download the free Circular Train Guide for information on interesting towns along the route that you can visit.
The best place to begin and end your Circular Railway journey is the conveniently located Yangon Central Railway Station. Do check with your hotel concierge for the updated train schedule.

Make a Splash at Yangon Waterboom
Yangon Waterboom is Myanmar's first water park, and home to water slides and play areas that will provide hours of fun for children. Adventurous kids can try the 15m freefall and speed slides, where they’ll be heading straight for the waters at almost 70km/h! The family can also ride together in the highly popular Tornado water slide, which is as adrenaline-inducing as a roller coaster. You’ll be twisting, turning, and plummeting together, giving you plenty to talk about after!
Apart from the waterpark, kids can also enjoy some good times on dry land—there’s an indoor playground for younger kids, as well as a flying fox and trampoline for those whose energy levels have yet to fizzle out.

Explore an Abandoned Amusement Park in Yangon
What’s more fun than an amusement park? An abandoned amusement park, of course! There is no official name for this formerly glorious amusement park that ceased operations less than a decade ago. Left to the ravages of time, the park has become something of a tourist attraction in Yangon, and visitors have likened it to exploring a post-apocalyptic world—certainly an experience that would intrigue children and grown-ups alike!
There is no entry fee required to visit this park, so don’t be fooled by individuals posing as ticketing officers. Also, do be mindful that much of the park’s equipment would have rusted over, and some visitors have cautioned that you might have more peace of mind poking around if you’ve had your tetanus shots.

Go Indoor Skydiving in Yangon

It’s a great place to experience the thrills of flight, where you can stay afloat—or even glide, twirl, and somersault—within the confines of a wind tunnel. Apart from those with medical conditions, anyone can experience the exhilaration of indoor skydiving. It’s safe for kids, exciting for teens, and challenging for adults, which makes it a perfect family activity!

Scale New Heights in Yangon
It’s always a good time to go rock climbing at Climb O’Clock! This indoor climbing gym offers two types of climb activities that anyone can try: Bouldering (suitable for ages six and up) and Top Rope (suitable for ages three and up).
If you’re new to this, “bouldering” refers to climbing on small rock formations or artificial rock walls without the use of ropes or harnesses, while “top rope climbing” involves being securely attached to a rope that passes up through an anchor system at the top of the climb, and down to a belayer (person who controls the safety rope for a climber) at the foot of the climb.
Don’t worry if it’s your maiden climb—there will be experienced staff to assist you!

Take Photos at an Instagrammable Street in Yangon
If your teens have social media accounts, they’ll want to have a few portraits taken at the vibrant Waziya Cinema Street. This is the back lane of Waziya Cinema, one of Yangon’s oldest and most celebrated theatres. Here, walls are resplendent with life and colour, thanks to murals that pay tribute to the film industry and Myanmese stars. You can also take the opportunity to explore the recently restored Waziya Cinema, which houses a collection of film and cinema memorabilia. Movie buffs, try running a search during your staycation to see if any film festivals are being held in the area—it might be your lucky day!
