Singapore Holidays: Best Places to Visit with Family

Welcome to Singapore! If you are thinking of a family vacation in the sunny Asian island, you will not be disappointed.

While the city state may be just 721 square kilometres big—a tad smaller than New York City—it packs a big punch when it comes to exhilarating activities that both children and parents will enjoy. In addition, the Lion City’s safe streets, clean air quality, and convenient public transport will give you and your loved ones peace of mind during your trip.

Wondering what are the best places to visit in Singapore with your family? Read what the Pan Pacific Singapore team recommends here.

1. Enter a role-playing interactive city just for kids

Address: 31 Beach View, #01-01/02 Palawan Kidz City, Sentosa, Singapore 098008
Telephone number: +65 6653 6888
Opening hours: Monday to Sunday: 10:00am to 6:00pm

A kid-sized city where your little ones can role-play, learn about different careers, and earn an income? This is why KidZania is a child and parent’s dream playground come true.

The  7,525 square metres interactive theme park—suitable for kids aged three to 17—is located on the island resort of Sentosa. Designed to mimic the real world, the popular family tourist attraction comes with commercial and government buildings, paved streets, vehicles, and a functioning economy system with its own currency known as kidzos.

Your children can choose to role-play in over 60 occupations and earn Kidzos after every job. Thankfully, each only takes around 20 minutes to complete. They can then spend their “hard-earned” salary at dining outlets and shops in KidZania. If only real-life work was this easy and fun!

Bonus Tips:

1. Children above 8 years old can play in KidZania independently. However, their parents must be present at admission and prior to exit. If your children are younger, you have to accompany them at the indoor theme park at all times.

2. You can participate in activities for parents such as becoming a flight cabin passenger, cash officer in the bank vault, or transport couriers. This gives you a great opportunity to take Singapore photos of your kids at work!

3. Queue Cards are distributed at particular timings outside the Aviation Academy, so if your kids want to take to the friendly skies, remember to queue up in advance to pick up the cards.

4. Just like in real life, tertiary education is important in KidZania as well. Enrol your kids in the “university”, complete a test to earn a “degree”, and your children will earn more Kidzos at selected jobs.

2. Defy gravity with indoor skydiving at iFly Singapore

Opening hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday to Sunday: 9:00am to 9:30pm

“My dream was to become an astronaut, because I thought that was the only way I could fly… There’s no end to what you can learn with indoor skydiving. It’s like a combination of many sports,”  - Kyra Poh, gold medal winner of indoor skydiving World Cup.

If jumping out of a plane is too unnerving, try indoor skydiving—it may be the closest experience you get to flying like a bird. At iFly Singapore located in Sentosa, you will experience thrilling free-fall conditions in an indoor wind tunnel. While in flight, feast your eyes at the unparalleled view of the South China Sea, visible through the 5-metre tall acrylic glass wall.

The two-hour session will include a preparatory briefing with skilled instructors, and changing into the gear—a flight suit, helmet, and goggles will be provided. You can also “take to the skies” with two gravity-defying skydives in the wind tunnel. Children must be at least seven years old to fly.

3. Get high in the treetops for an obstacle adventure

Address: 825 Bedok Reservoir Road, Bedok Reservoir Park, Singapore 479244
Telephone number: +65 8100 7420
Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday: 9:30am to 6:30pm

For a sporty day out in the sun, travel east to Bedok Reservoir for Forest Adventure, Singapore’s only tree-top obstacle adventure park.

Pit your family’s arboreal abilities against three challenging courses. Adults and older teens can attempt the Grand Course with 44 obstacles and 3 giant zip lines, while tweens can attempt the Junior Course with 26 obstacles and a single zip line over the water.

The Kids Course, with 22 crossings and two zip lines, is suitable for your little ones aged five to nine years. Don’t worry if this proves too challenging for your kids—you are encouraged to give them a helping hand and join them on the course.

While a safety briefing is par for the course (pardon the pun), do note there will not be any instructors on the courses itself. All participants must complete the course unguided and unsupervised.

4. Take a river cruise along the heart of Singapore

Address: Clarke Quay Jetty River Cruise ticketing counter, 3 River Valley Road, Clarke Quay, Singapore 179024

Wondering where to go in Singapore at night? Make a trip down to Clarke Quay or Boat Quay.

To experience one of the most widely photographed cityscapes of Singapore, hop on board a rustic bum boat along the Singapore River—once the commerce hub of the city in the old days.

The 40-minute cruise will include commentaries on the rich history behind important landmarks on both banks of the river. Learn how the colourful traditional shophouses in Clarke Quay and Boat Quay came about, where Singapore’s founder Sir Stamford Raffles first landed on the island, as well as the origins of the Merlion, Esplanade, and Marina Bay Sands.

Do keep your mobile phone charged. You will need it to take lots of beautiful photos of Singapore city to show your family and friends back home.

5. Learn to duel like a Jedi

Address and operating hours: Training locations, days and times vary, check their website for details

“This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster; an elegant weapon for a more civilized age,” Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi says of the lightsaber, the famed weapon used by the heroes in the movie series Star Wars.

At The Saber Authority’s Combat Saber Experience, trained instructors will guide you on how to wield a lightsaber and duel with fellow combatants. An intergalactic dream come true for Star Wars fans, imagine yourself to be Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, or Darth Vader as you safely spar with your “enemies”.

Beginners, or apprentices as they are known in the popular franchise, will first learn foundation strikes and footwork that are based on actual Asian martial arts. As you develop your abilities, you will be taught more advanced techniques used in single saber dueling, double saber dueling, and saber staff dueling.

Single session lessons are available on Sundays and Wednesdays at different locations, and lightsabers and duel gloves are provided. The activity is recommended for teens aged 15 and above, but children aged 12 to 14 can also participate with a parent.

May the Force be with you.
