Our Commitment to Sustainability
PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport is committed to leading sustainable hospitality, reflecting our guests' growing preference for responsible and eco-conscious experiences. Through a series of thoughtful, environmentally friendly initiatives, we strive to enhance each guest’s stay while positively contributing to our community and environment.
Our sustainability commitment extends across all areas of hotel operations, with a focus on adopting innovative practices and evolving our approach to reduce our environmental footprint. As we continue this journey, PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport remains dedicated to inspiring positive change by engaging our associates, guests, and business partners in fostering a more sustainable future together.
Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Certification
PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport proudly holds the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) certification, a mark of excellence that highlights our dedication to sustainable hospitality. This achievement affirms our leadership in promoting environmentally conscious practices within the tourism and hospitality industry.
The GSTC criteria set the benchmark for sustainable travel and tourism, addressing key areas such as responsible planning, engagement with local communities, preservation of cultural heritage, and environmental stewardship.
Our Environment
Guests are invited to join our towel and linen reuse program, which helps conserve water and minimize detergent use. In each guestroom, we’ve installed water-saving showerheads to further reduce water use without compromising on comfort.
Energy efficiency is also at the core of our operations. The entire hotel, from guest rooms to service areas, is fitted with LED lighting, significantly reducing energy consumption compared to traditional lighting. Many of our office and meeting spaces feature automated light sensors that switch off when not in use, ensuring that we use energy only when needed.
We are replacing plastic coffee cups and containers with 100% biodegradable bamboo alternatives. Nearly all of our fresh produce arrives in eco-friendly cardboard, and plastic straws have been swapped for biodegradable ones.
Our People & Community
We prioritise sourcing local Australian products from suppliers that employ sustainable practices whenever possible. By choosing local and sustainable options, we aim to reduce our carbon footprint and support ethical farming and production methods. In addition to our sourcing practices, we are proud to support Scouts Victoria’s Youth Programs through the introduction of CDS donation bins across our hotel for recycling eligible containers. These bins not only contribute to our recycling efforts but also help fund youth activities, fostering growth, education, and opportunities for young people in our community. Every container recycled means a step towards a cleaner environment and a brighter future for our youth.
Our Art
We are proud to support and celebrate the work of local artists, bringing a rich tapestry of creativity to our spaces. Each piece displayed throughout the hotel has been carefully selected to complement the environment, adding warmth, character, and a sense of place.
Our commitment to the arts reflects our values of sustainability and inclusivity. By collaborating with artists from across Victoria, including those with unique perspectives and experiences, we aim to create spaces that inspire, comfort, and connect with our guests.
Art is not only a visual enhancement to our hotel but also a way to foster community engagement. Through our partnerships, we contribute to the growth of the local creative scene and support initiatives that align with our dedication to social impact and sustainability.
