Public Art Space at Pan Pacific Singapore
| Published Date : 23 Jul 2008 |
Public Art Space, 220 square metres of dedicated space on level two of the hotel overlooking The Atrium is dedicated to showcasing collections by artists with exhibitions rotating on a quarterly basis. The decision to create Public Art Space is based on the hotel’s commitment to the local community; supporting the Arts in the most accessible way possible and making it available for public enjoyment.
In line with the hotel’s community vision to develop and sustain worthy community projects, three pieces from each exhibition is contributed to Assisi Hospice, the hotel’s adopted charity since 2004. Assisi Home & Hospice, an outreach service of Mount Alvernia Hospital, is a bedded hospice and daycare facility for care of individuals with cancer.
Current Installation: Launch!: Capturing the Subculture of Speed in Pigment
Exhibition Date: 7 August to 3 October 2008
Venue: Public Art Space, Level 2 Pan Pacific Singapore
The hotel is delighted to collaborate with established artist Lee Gilbert to present “Launch!: Capturing the Subculture of Speed in Pigment”, an exhibition to commemorate the inaugural night race in Singapore.
The exhibition showcases a collection of acrylic on canvas art pieces depicting themes related to automobiles; fast cars and the iconic American hot rod. Through his works, Lee aims to manifest the human element of an otherwise machine-dominated topic, highlighting the people behind the fast-paced sport – drivers, crew and spectators.
The unique artworks are available for viewing and purchase till 3 October.
Artist’s profile
Trained in California, Oregon and Singapore, US-born Lee Gilbert is a partner in Studio Barrosa and works across all media, painting in acrylics and oils, sculpting and printmaking. A Singapore PR, Lee has participated in several local exhibitions since 2004 and his works can be found in private collections in Europe, North America and Asia.
