Parramatta Park and Old Government House

World Heritage Listed Parramatta Park is a must see for visitors to Sydney. Colonists and convicts were one of the first to be successful in growing sufficient food to feed themselves on this land. The park was considered too attractive to solely be reserved for cropping and was later used by successive Governors as respite from the stresses of running a very large open air prison. Following a determined public campaign, the area was gazetted a People's Park in 1858. Old Government House is the oldest remaining public building in Australia.Tucked in beside the Macquarie Street entrance is a large formal rose garden which contains a rare collection of heritage roses.
